Two fiddles and piano, Columbia 33542-F. The piano player is almost undoubtedly Tony Banks, but the identity of the other fiddler on this and other Morrison recordings remains a mystery. Paddy Killoran was Morrison's student when Killoran first arrived in NYC, but apparently they had a falling out. Jackie Roche was another Morrison student who was an excellent fiddler who made a solo LP for the Avoca label in the 50s, but whether he was old enough to play on these records I'm not certain. Fiddle solo, Charles Wilkens - banjo, unknown - piano, Columbia 33267-F. The first tune is one of less than a handful recorded by all three Sligo fiddle masters; Coleman called it the Killarney Wonder Schottische, Killoran's title was Shannon's Favorite - fling. Schottisches and Highland Flings are often interchangeable as tunes. In print the title used is Farrell O'Gara, which in Sligo was a name for a reel. O'Gara was a medieval Connaught lord who funded the Annals of the Four Masters, a book...
